Thank you to everyone who entered and attended our Annual Honey Show on Saturday 16 September, with an impressive 124 entries, we were delighted with the response.
Those who came along were able to enjoy a cup of tea, a home-made cake as well as a chance to buy from the plant stall and take a chance on the tombola. The horticultural association exhibits were also excellent alongside our own.
Particular thanks go to our stewards Alan Baxter and Tim Cooper who ensured that our judges David Sandwell and Amanda Chamberlain were well supported throughout the judging process.
As well as first, second, third, highly commended and very highly commended awards in individual classes the following members won our FDBKA trophies:-
Hood Cup – Mike Holloway
Moore Challenge Trophy and Best in Show (Certificate of Merit and £20 Thornes Voucher) – John Hoar
Mc Lachan Trophy – John Hoar (for Commercial Class)
FDBKA 70th Anniversary Trophy – Mike Barringer and Greg Young
Parry Trophy – Ernie Lethbridge
2019 Centenary Trophy for Mead – Mike Barringer
Vice Presidents’ Cup for Wax – Mike Barringer
Our Honey and Wax judge, David Sandwell, remained after judging to provide individual feedback noting a good standard and the particular strength of FDBKA for a culture of ‘showing’, so that those who have achieved awards at our show often put forward their entries to the ‘HBA’ and ‘National’ shows with the expectation that they can achieve similar results at a higher level.
Judge Amanda Chamberlain thoroughly enjoyed her assessment of the confectionery classes with the biscuits and sweet categories, challenging due to the good standard, resulting in a close finish for awards in those particular categories.
A very special thanks to Aine Doherty for her huge contribution of organising and inputting the results on the Honey Show excel spreadsheet as well as supporting to set up Friday evening.
Thank you also to Greg Young for his assistance with preparations on Friday.
